An Intense gaze on the nature of reference services and sources in Dame Patience Jonathan Academic Library

The study examined the nature of reference services and sources in the Dame Patience Jonathan Academic Library. The study is anchored in a descriptive research design. The study sample comprised 13 library staff (para-professionals and professional librarians). The study adopted the judgmental sampling technique, considering only para-professionals and professional librarians, as they are the core service providers in the library. Data were collected using an observational inventory. The collected data were analyzed using frequency count and percentage. Items with a Yes percentage above 50% were accepted. Findings reveal that lack of ICT skills, inadequate ICT facilities, and poor internet connectivity are the challenges confronting the delivery of reference services. It was recommended that academic libraries build their own library websites, create online platforms for users to interact with human librarians or chatbots, and optimize their social media accounts
